NASCAR helps drive Ford marketing

When Carl Edwards starts his engine here at Dover International Speedway, he won't just be driving a car --it's also a Ford sales machine.
"We're invested in the sport for one reason: to sell cars and trucks," said Tim Duerr, NASCAR marketing manager for Ford Racing -- North America Motorsports in Dearborn, Mich.
Ford supports eight Fusion vehicles in the Sprint Cup Series, of which today's Camping World RV 400 is a part. That support, Duerr says, is not frivolous.
"People might question it for a company that lost $15 billion in the past few years," Duerr says --but Ford sees it as a shrewd move that can show a return on investment.
